In 2022, the renowned Eko Onibaje New Yam Festival, powered by Castledown Arts Center, proudly marked its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of cultural richness and unity. Sponsored by International Breweries PLC’s Trophy Beer, the festival featured the lively Trophy Beer stage, where an official from the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture presented a letter of endorsement to the festival’s convener, Mr. Chiedu Idezuna, commemorating this milestone event.
This year, International Breweries PLC returns as a sponsor for the 16th edition of this grand celebration, featuring their popular non-alcoholic malt beverage, Beta Malt. The Eko New Yam Festival 2024, 16th Edition, will take place at the newly established ABAT CBD Market, located along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos
Rooted in the tradition of the new yam harvest, this vibrant annual event honours Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, drawing communities together from across the nation, including the Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, and many other tribes. The festivities will kick off on World Tourism Day, September 27th, 2024, followed by the official cutting of the New Yam on September 28th, 2024.
The ABAT CBD Market, a bustling commercial hub, will serve as the festival venue. It is home to the Auto Spare Parts and Mechanic Village, Cattle and Ram Sellers, Tomato and Pepper Markets, Vegetable Stalls, Grocery Shops, and major wholesale distributors, attracting a daily foot traffic of over 5,000 people. The Eko Onibaje New Yam Festival promises to be an exciting blend of cultural celebration and commerce, bringing together diverse communities in a shared tradition, promoting peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.
